Simple Ways to Start Transitioning into Spring

Written by Kelly Tenny  |  23. February 2015

This year, Friday March 20th marks the first day of Spring. After all of the snow we’ve been receiving during the tail end of this Winter on Long Island, many Long Islanders are elated to see this season come and go. Though, while everyone is looking forward to Spring, Spring also brings with it lots of changes. From the temperature outside, to what’s hanging in your closet, to how you decide to accent your home, there’s a lot of seasonal transitioning that you have to be ready for.

Check out these tips for transitioning your wardrobe, your home, and you and your family, to the warmer, budding season of Spring.

Transitioning Your Wardrobe

Incorporate Layers! Although Spring is on the way, it may still be chilly out there for awhile longer! Choosing to layer up your clothing, so that no matter what the temperature is like outside or inside you’ll be comfortable, is always a good idea.

Add More Colors & Prints To Your Wardrobe! Show this lingering Winter weather that you’re truly ready for Spring by brightening up your wardrobe with bursts of colors and patterns, specially floral!

Accessorize! Adding a little more bling to your outfit can help transition a once Winter outfit into a potential Spring outfit. Chunky bangles and dangly earrings are just the thing!

Transitioning Your Home

Add Touches of Green to the House! Whether it be a green throw pillow, table runner or candle, throwing a little bit of green into the mix will help your home feel that much more “Springy!”

Bring Life Inside the Home! While gardening is a very popular Spring outdoor activity, you can also add some plant life into your home! By simply adding a few houseplants to the decor you already have you’ll liven up the atmosphere!

Let Some Light In! Although it may still be too cold outside to open up the window and let the cool, breeze float in, it’s not too cold to open up the curtains! Let some light in! With the daylight hours slowly becoming longer, it’ll feel more like nicer weather outside.

Transitioning Yourself & Your Family

Get Outside More! Start going outside when you can as the seasons transition from Winter to Spring. Natural light is good for your health and good for your mood. Spending that time outside will get you in gear for the beautiful weather we’ll be having soon!

Start Eating Healthier! During the Wintertime is very easy to become hermits, couch potatoes and repeat offenders of ordering out multiple times a week. Start getting yourself into a routine now by making meals beforehand and incorporating more fruits and vegetables. You can even check out a Winter Farmer’s Market on Long Island to browse for fresh produce to use!

Start Helping the Kids Prepare for Spring Fever! With the arrival of the warmer weather comes a much shorter attention span and a decreased desire to do schoolwork. Make sure the kids are keeping up with their work by coming up with a schedule. Make sure there’s time for homework & studying but that there’s time for fun too!
