The Human Development Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County is pleased to offer workshops for parents for 2007. Please join us for lively discussions where you will meet other parents with similar concerns. All workshops are held at the Kermit W. Graf Building in Riverhead. Questions? Parenting is a demanding job! Parents need reliable information, skill training and support in raising children to be responsible and productive adults. As part of Family and Consumer Sciences of Cornell University Cooperative Extension, Suffolk County, The Human Development Program is committed to helping parents:

- Gain understanding of child development
- Increase confidence in their roles as parents
- Improve communication skills with their children
- Decrease feelings of isolation
- Enhance parent-child interaction

In today's world of excess, it's all too easy for parents to overindulge children. But overindulgence is more than giving kids too much. It's also having lax rules and being over-nurturing. Learn how to avoid these parenting pitfalls and raise a child of character.Educator: Tim Jahn. One session.

WHEN KIDS MAKE YOU ANGRY
Anger is a powerful and potentially destructive emotion, and children have lots of ways to push parents' buttons so they lose their cool. Learn how to stay composed and in control by handling anger calmly and effectively. Educator: Tim Jahn. One session.

During this workshop we will talk about small steps families can take to create big improvements in family relationships and overall well-being while living in today's fast-paced culture. The Secret Lives of Teenagers
Do you think you know pre-teens or teens well? You might be surprised, even shocked, to learn that most teens do not readily share information with adults and many have secret inner lives. Learn about effective monitoring, ways to respectfully engage teens and how to avoid problems before secret lives cross over to the dark side. Educator: Tim Jahn. One session.

WINNING WAYS TO TALK WITH KIDS
Set the stage for effective communication and turn "My kid won't listen!" into cooperative communication. The ability to talk effectively with your child will help you at every stage of their development. Learn how to avoid communication breakdowns and be a better listener. Educator: Nancy Olsen-Harbich.
