Locally Heavy Snow to Fall This Morning Across Eastern Long Island Causing Brief Whiteout Conditions

The mix of snow and wind could cause snow to accumulate quickly potentially culminating in brief whiteout conditions and dangerous traveling conditions.

A special weather alert statement has been issued by the National Weather Service. Between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., moderate to locally heavy snowfall will occur in Suffolk County with accumulations in some locations that could receive an inch of accumulation an hour.

A wind advisory is also in effect for Suffolk County with strong southwest winds reaching 20 to 30 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. Wind conditions such as these could cause minor property damage and difficulty driving. Those close to south facing shorelines will experience the strongest winds.

The wind advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon.
