Winter farmers' markets are popping up all over Long Island, both indoors and outdoors.  Last January, a new record was set in New York for most winter farmers' markets ever in the area, with 120 different markets across the state.  Lucky for Long Islanders, we have many markets in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties to choose from, each with a large variety of produce, foods, and other goods.  Each year, these markets have grown more diverse, and include the expected winter vegetables grown outside or in greenhouses, as well as niche items like microbrewed beer, homemade pasta, gluten free foods, and other artisanal foods and beverages.  This is the perfect opportunity to shop local, and to also incorporate more local foods into your diet by supporting Long Island's farmers.

Come prepared to any of these markets, and be sure to have cash on hand for vendors who do not take credit card.  Also, go green by bringing your own bags to take your tasty treasures home!
